May 2008 an ordinary meeting of new Malayalees of Perth was held at Victoria Park and the meeting has decided to celebrate Onam 2008.In this regard a committee was formed and Onam 2008 was celebrated in leisure life centre Victoria Park. The meeting was inaugurated by Mrs Sonia Vimal [Malayalam Actor] and presided by Mr Subash Mangatt. It was a big success; around 250 Malayalees participated in this function.
The next general body meeting was held at the residence of Mr Biju Joy and we decided to move on with cultural activities associated with Malayalees in Perth. And another decision was taken to celeberate Xmas and New Year 2009.The Xmas celebration was inaugurated by Fr.Thomas Mankuthell and presided by john paynunkell,it was a great success. The next general body meeting was held at 21 Wickham Street, east Perth and decided to take steps to get registration and continue with programs in connection with Onam 2009. Onam 2009 was a great success ever; about 650 people attended this function. Irrespective of cultural activities, other recreational activities (including tug of war) was introduced at this occasion. The meeting was inaugurated by Mr.Bill Johnston MLA, and presided by Mr Subash Mangatt.Prize distribution was Fr Thomas Mathkunnel.
There was a meeting held at 112 centre street, Queens Park and there we decided to celebrate Xmas and New year 2010.This celebration was held in the community hall, Maddington.There was about 500 malayalees participated, in this occasion cricket tournament was also conducted. The meeting was inaugurated by Fr Thomas Mankunnel and presided by James Varkey. The prices were distributed by Dr Shelbin Neelankavil.
Meanwhile we got registration from the dept. of commerce and registered as a charitable organization.
In addition of these programs and celebration the volunteers of map had helped Malayalees including students for transportation facilities from airport and provide suitable accommodations and valuable advice about studies and jobs.
